Skil 40V Battery Operated Leaf Blower Review

Posted on April 26, 2023 by

Skil 40V Blower Attracts Homeowners With Its Blend of Performance and Value

The Skil PWRCore40 Series is built with the homeowner in mind, designed for convenience and utility, especially for small to medium sized lawns. When it comes to battery powered blowers, it's easy to buy with a "bigger is better" mentality when it comes to maximum airflow. That being said, the Skil 40V 530 CFM Brushless Blower has proven that you don't need record breaking specs to get quality results.

Skil 40V 530 CFM Blower Performance

  • Maximum Airspeed: 130 MPH
  • Air output: 530 CFM
  • Newton force: 10.8 N (high), 14.1 N (boost)
  • Runtime: 9 minutes 38 seconds. (High), 8 minutes. 13 seconds. (Promote)

The Skil 40V Blower features a brushless motor and axial fan design that blasts up to 530 CFM at 130 MPH. Using our in-house dynamometer, the Skil produced 10.8 Newtons on high and 14.1 Newtons with Boost mode engaged. It's exactly what we've come to expect from a modern residential battery-operated blower.

While none of these stats will set any records for blower power, they are enough to blow down sidewalks and driveways after mowing the lawn. It's also a solid choice for blowing off seasonal foliage.

We can't talk about power without talking about runtime. Using the companion 2.5Ah battery, the Skil 40V blower ran for 9 minutes and 38 seconds on high power and just over 8 minutes with boost mode enabled. For the battery size, that's actually quite commendable. But if you run out of power in the middle of a job, the PWRJump charger included with the hair dryer can restore the battery to 30 percent in about 15 minutes, and fully charge it in an hour.

Skil 40V 530 CFM Blower Design

  • Model: SKIL BL4713C-11
  • Power supply: Skil 40V battery
  • Weight: 4.1 lbs. (naked), 6.6 lbs. (with 2.5Ah battery)
  • Length: 35 inches
  • Motor: Brushless
  • Noise level: 76dB (high), 79dB (boost)

As a bare tool, the Skil 40V blower weighs only 4.1 lbs. Sliding in the companion 2.5Ah battery pack only brings the total weight to 6.6 pounds. At 35 inches long, this blower is easy to maneuver and store when the job is done. If you still need room to combine, simply detach the tube from the motor housing via the quick release button. Doing this cuts the overall length in half, allowing it to fit easily in a locker.

Skills 40V Blower

Skil's 40V Cordless Hair Dryer feels well balanced, and I mean it has a natural nose down. With the blower on, your wrists can hang naturally while the blower is pointed at the ground.

Like most battery-operated blowers, the Skil features cruise control, with a thumb dial on top that lets you set and maintain the speed. This saves you from having to pull the trigger all the time. When you need a little extra power, you can reach higher speeds simply by pulling the lever past its natural stop with your thumb. When you're done with boost mode, let go of the lever and it returns to the high position.

Skil 40V 530 CFM Blower Prices

You can get this Skil 40V blower with a 2.5Ah battery and PWRJump charger for $159.00. If you register your blower within the first 30 days of purchase, it comes with a 5-year warranty.

the bottom line

The Skil 40V Blower is a great addition to a homeowner's OPE arsenal. Its overall design is lightweight and easy to use, but more importantly, its power level is high enough to replace your old residential gas-powered model. And, while there are certainly more powerful battery-operated blowers on the market, the Skil's price and overall value are hard to beat.
