Ryobi 18V One+ Cordless Bug Zapper

Posted on April 23, 2023 by

Rock Your Summer Nights With the Ryobi Bug Zapper

There's nothing like spending a good, relaxing summer night outside. But when the bugs are out, they can keep you sour all night, especially when they start biting! The Ryobi 18V One+ Cordless Bug Zapper (P29014BTLVNM) is designed to solve the constant bug problem.

buzzing

Ryobi rates their bug zappers to provide insect protection for up to 1-1/2 acres of outdoor areas. It works by using ultraviolet (UV) lights to attract bugs to the inside of the mesh. It then ends them all with a pleasing 2,550-volt "shock."

Controls are very simple. Just press the button with the mosquito icon to cycle the UV light for 2, 4 or 6 hours.

control

Since the Ryobi zapper operates on a limited pulse of high voltage, the unit does not emit appreciable heat. That means it doesn't get hot.

You can also carry it with you or mount it to a hook or peg via the integrated plastic handle on top.

add attractant

The Ryobi bug zapper is designed exactly as advertised. However, it's unlikely to create the mosquito-free paradise you might wish you had for yourself.

Mosquitoes and other biting insects are more attracted to carbon dioxide and body odor than to light sources including ultraviolet light (which is why they are so good at finding you in the dark). For even more effectiveness, add a mosquito attractant, such as Black Flag's Octenon Lure, to attract them.

to clean up

error trap

With many other bug zappers on the market, you have to work hard to get rid of the bugs after extermination. However, Ryobi includes a removable tray so you can quickly clean your 18V bug zapper. The bugs get wiped out and go in the trash, where you toss them when it's full. This greatly simplifies the deletion process.

Still, there is some cleanup to do. When bugs start to accumulate on the net, blow the net with a soft nylon brush or even a hair dryer.

area light

There is an LED area light with 3 brightness settings. It offers 9, 18 or 30 lumens, perfect for lighting your tent or picnic table. However, it doesn't have to be on for the zapper to function.

the bottom line

A wireless bug zapper is a great idea for your outdoor living space or weekend adventure, and Ryobi makes it a reality. Remember, as with most zappers, you'll need to add attractants for maximum effectiveness.
