The Ridgid R45171 10-Inch Compact Table Saw, set to hit the market in November, is the latest offering from the company in the table saw category. This updated Ridgid model retains many of the features of its predecessor but now comes in a more streamlined and compact design.
Same specifications, smaller form factor
What makes the Ridgid’s new table saw intriguing is that, at first glance, it closely resembles the R4513 model. The previous model boasted a full-size body and impressive power. Similarly, the Ridgid R45171 maintains a 120-volt, 15-amp motor but in a more compact size. Both saws can achieve a powerful 5,000RPM.
This table saw also offers a 26-inch cutting capacity, allowing for wider materials to be handled. It includes a micro-bevel adjustment feature for making angled cuts, which would be valuable if it operates similarly to the full-size model. Moreover, this table saw is equipped with a soft start feature for quiet and smooth operation, unlike the Ridgid R4517 which lacks this functionality.
The saw comes with a foldable stand that brings the saw to a comfortable working height and can be easily folded for convenient transport and storage. Ridgid constructs the table and stand using solid cast aluminum, with the table saw featuring a steel roll cage for enhanced durability.
The Ridgid R45171 will be available for purchase at your local Home Depot store for $299 starting in November. Furthermore, as is typical with most Ridgid tools, this model comes with a lifetime service agreement.
If the Ridgid R45171 performs as impressively as the full-size R4513 in our December shootout, it should be in excellent shape. The specs of both saws appear nearly identical. While the full-size Ridgid table saw reigns supreme in terms of power, it remains to be seen if both models utilize the same motor. Nevertheless, it is commonly understood that downsizing the motor is necessary when designing a compact model.
Ridgid’s previous model excelled in terms of fencing, and we anticipate either a similar model or a slight upgrade in this regard. The retail price of $299 is $200 less compared to the full-size model. Clearly, the stand of the R45171 has a more minimalist design than its full-size counterpart. Moreover, the R45171 offers a shallower depth of cut, but only by 1/4″. We will need to get our hands on it to obtain all the details, but considering its price point, the Ridgid R45171 might be a worthwhile choice for professionals seeking a compact table saw. It is also an exciting option for DIY enthusiasts looking to step up their game.
