The original Hole Hawg was introduced in the 1970s. In 2014, we witnessed the launch of the Milwaukee 2707-20 M18 Hole Hawg, which offered satisfactory battery life and even faster drilling speeds while being lighter than its corded counterparts. Six years later, Milwaukee seems to be offering users a more robust solution, claiming to provide a complete wireless replacement. We can’t wait to test this tool and find out if it truly renders cords obsolete.
What’s the Fuss About?
The new Milwaukee M18 Fuel Hole Hawgs may bear a resemblance to their predecessors, but the brand assures us that these new tools deliver more power in high-speed applications. Specifically, Milwaukee has upgraded the brushless motors and electronics in these tools to draw more power when using the M18 high-output batteries.
As a result, these right-angle drills can deliver more power under load without slowing down. Milwaukee claims that both models can reach a speed of 1,500 RPM. We are excited to see how quickly they can bore through a couple of 2x4s or tackle larger hole saws.
Additionally, Milwaukee states that both models can drill up to 220 7/8-inch holes in a single piece of SPF lumber using a 6 Ah high-output battery.
Weight is another significant improvement with the next-generation Milwaukee M18 Fuel Hole Haw right angle drill. The 2807-20 weighs just 7.7 lbs (a mere 7.4 pounds heavier than the 2014 model). The 2808-20 Quik-Lok model weighs even less, at just 7.09 pounds. Considering the weight of the XC6.0 battery at 2.3 lbs, you have a range of power drills that weigh less than 10 lbs.
To put this into perspective, both tools are slightly heavier than the 2014 model but weigh (including batteries) a little over 1.5 pounds less than a corded Hole Hawg and over 5 pounds less than a corded Super Hawg.
The 2807-22 M18 Fuel Hole Hawg comes with a keyed chuck, while the 2808-22 kit includes Milwaukee’s Quik-Lok keyless chuck, making one-handed bit changes a breeze. It is compatible with most 7/16″ flat or fluted shank bits used in augers, self-feed drills, and hole saws.
When Can I Get It?
The new Milwaukee Hole Hawgs (2807-20 and 2808-20) are available for $279 without batteries. The companion models (2807-22 and 2808-22) retail for $579. Both will be released in June 2020.
Both kits come with two 6.0 Ah batteries, a charger, and a bag. Like all of Milwaukee’s M18 cordless tools, both versions of this tool come with a 5-year warranty.
