Cordless Diving with Milwaukee's M18 Fuel Track Saw
Milwaukee has had some very popular tools over the past few years. The M18 Fuel Mower has done a big job, and now the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Plunge Cut Track Saw is a reality!

Like most track saws, the Milwaukee sticks to a 6 1/2-inch blade diameter. Its brushless motor is paired with a high-output battery that revs the blade up to 5600 RPM to help you achieve a clean cut, even with high-tooth-count blades and hardwoods.
One performance feature you might not have expected is the variable speed dial. With it, you can drop the blade speed all the way down to 2500 RPM to match the material you're cutting.

Trigger safety is another factor that differs from what you might expect. Instead of using a neat push-in or push-down switch on the side of the handle, it's a button on the top. It doesn't take much to get used to, and it's very easy to operate with your thumb.

When you cut in (which is a smooth experience), the riving knife drops, helping to prevent material from pinching the blade or kickback.

When you're using the rails, there's an adjustable cam mechanism to help you make precise cuts. We used rails from Milwaukee and got a precise fit and the smooth sliding action you expect from a quality track saw.

weight
Weight is not a huge concern when it comes to track saws. Of course, you have to carry them where you're going to cut, but a little weight can actually help when you're sliding through the cut. Without the battery, the Milwaukee 2831 weighs 9.1 lbs. With the recommended 6.0Ah high output battery, you weigh 11.5 lbs
Dust removal

The Milwaukee includes a dust bag that connects to the port on the back of the blade guard when you can't use the vacuum. Of course, it also connects to Milwaukee's wet/dry vacs and other vacuums to give you over 90% dust removal, keeping your workspace clean and reducing the amount of dust you inhale into the air.
The dust port is 360° rotatable so you can set it in the most convenient orientation. Its diameter fits 1 7/8" hose and adapters.
blade height

With the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Track Saw, you can cut up to 2 1/4 inches deep. Adjusting the depth is very easy. Press the button on the red depth gauge stop and slide it to your desired depth of cut. That's it. When you dive, it will stop where you set the indicator. Note that the single indicator line indicates the depth when you are not using the rails, and the double indicator line indicates the depth when you are using it.
There is also a micro depth adjustment knob. This is the same knob that hits the deep stop. To adjust which blade you're using, simply turn the knob to extend or retract.

Hidden next to the blade lock button, there is another deep stop switch. This is where the score cuts stop and do exactly what it says. With the spare blade, you'll only have about 5/16" exposed under the shoe, and even less on the track.

One thing worth noting about the depth and bevel is that the reverse contrast markings make it easy to see your measurements. Thanks to all of us who are visually impaired, the design team!
slope adjustment

Bevel angles range from –1° to 48°, and best of all, there are stops at 22.5° and 45°. To adjust the bevel angle, you need to first loosen the knobs on the front and rear of the saw. To use the stop, turn the dial on the front to the position you want to use.
When you want angles beyond the limits, use the bevel override slider hidden behind the bevel gauge.

blade change

Blade replacement is a multi-step (but simple) process. First, flip up the lever under the auxiliary handle, then push the saw forward until it locks into the down position. Not only does this give you access to the blade, but the lever position also locks the trigger so it's impossible for you to accidentally start the saw.
Now that you have access to the arbor, grab the blade wrench (it's stored in front of the assist handle), press the spindle lock button, and loosen the arbor nut.
Add the blade you want to use and reverse the process to finish.
