Milwaukee M18 Fuel Hammer Drill and Drill Driver Get Gen 4 Edition Upgrade
First up is the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Hammer Drill. In the second edition, it's even more powerful. Third, it becomes more compact. Now we have the 4th generation of this impressive drill and drive tool, and it's not only powerful, but it also has some new features worth mentioning.

Milwaukee is making some upgrades to its flagship impact drills and drilling rigs. It's still a 2 speed system with low gear up to 500 RPM and high gear up to 2100 RPM. It also boosts torque to a whopping 1400 inch-pounds.
If you're going for the hammer drill version, the hammer rate is 33,000 BPM.
All in all, this should result in very fast drilling with as much low speed torque as a handheld drill. So how does this compare to Gen 3?
First, low gear is 50 RPM slower, while high gear is an extra 100 RPM for a faster overall top speed. It also shows up in the hammer rate, the updated model has an extra 1000 BPM to blast concrete. In terms of muscle, the 4th-generation model gains another 200 inch-pounds of torque.
This combination promises to make a significant difference in your drilling speed and power. In addition, the thermal range of the motor has been increased, enabling it to perform more demanding work before reaching the protective shutdown temperature.
Automatic stop
A new Milwaukee feature comes into play when you're drilling near the top of the tool range: AutoStop Mode. At first glance, this might seem like another recoil control technology, and to some extent it is.
The difference is that Milwaukee's Autostop dug deeper. Its algorithms help reduce the number of unnecessary stops that can slow down your productivity, while still reducing the risk of injury when you do overspin. According to Milwaukee, it has the least amount of tool travel before stopping compared to other drills with kickback control.
Also unusual is that you can toggle the auto-stop mode on and off. The tool comes with the schema. To turn it off, push the forward/reverse control switch to the middle position and pull the trigger 5 times. The AutoStop light comes on and then dims until it goes out. This indicates that you have successfully turned off the mode.
To turn it back on, just reverse the process. The only difference is that the AutoStop light will blink to let you know it's on again.
The mode defaults to whatever it was last, even if you remove the battery.

size and weight
On the surface, the tools don't look all that different. Both the drill and hammer retain the 6.9-inch length of the previous version. Weight has increased only slightly, from 3.2 lbs to 3.3 lbs. With a 5.0Ah battery, your total weight is approximately 4.9 lbs.
A bunch of keys?
Currently, there are no one-click options for drill rigs or hammer drills. That's typical for Milwaukee, though, and we'll likely see the feature available sometime in the next year or so.
