The Metabo HPT 18V Compact Hammer Drill is small, but don't let that fool you
Over the years, we've taken a look at many of the best cordless drills on the market and ranked them based on our performance metrics. The Metabo HPT 18V Compact Hammer Drill checks some very important boxes in the performance arena, but we wondered how it stacked up against other compact models.
- No-load speed: 0-550/2000 RPM
- Maximum Torque: 620 in-lbs.
- Influence rate: 0-8250/30000
- Chuck Capacity: 1/2 in.
- Motor Type: Brushless

The compact impact drill from Metabo HPT prides itself on its size. The brushless motor can produce up to 620 inch-pounds of torque and 2,000 RPM with a maximum bump rate of 30,000 BPM. The rig also features anti-kickback control and the Metabo HPT's reaction force control, which senses when the tool is overloaded and stops rotation.
As compact tools go, this rotary hammer is by no means inferior. Large spade bits and even 2-inch hole saws had no trouble in our hands-on testing, and our 3/8-inch concrete drill showed the same confidence. The large 3 1/2" deck screws and other similar fasteners were also effortless, but it did struggle to drive our 3" assortment screws.

With this power, most of your residential and commercial projects are within reach. We even added a 2 9/16-inch self-feeding drill for roughing during our testing, but it still wasn't enough to stop the brushless motor from spinning. However, if these types of heavy-duty applications are on your regular menu, we recommend upgrading to Metabo HPT's 36V hammer drill, which offers more high-end features.

Overall, we really like the size and weight of this compact drill. It measures 6.25 inches from tip to tail and weighs 3.5 pounds (with included battery). This allows you to get into tight spaces more easily than with a full-size Metabo HPT hammer drill. The grip is overmolded with smooth rubber and contoured to your hand to help you hold the drill securely while you work.

the bottom line
Without a doubt, the Metabo HPT 18V Compact Hammer Drill is one of the best compact drills we've ever tested. Its performance offers a wealth of versatility for professionals at a price well within the reach of DIY enthusiasts. While it might not be the most compact or fastest in its class, it's certainly one of the most powerful.
