The Leatherman Kick Multi-Tool is designed for those who like a little lighter but need a full-size multi-tool that has a longer, sharper and stronger tool in a lighter, more compact tool. Built with full-size pliers, the jaws are designed to hold twice the crush load of previous versions without the extra weight.
While Leatherman refers to this tool as a full-size multi-tool, we prefer to think of it as a "lite" version of a full-size multi-tool. That's not a bad thing either, as some other full-size tools can actually be a bit large and bulky. The Kick, on the other hand, is so thin that it actually fits in our pocket almost as comfortably as a normal pocket knife due to its reduced size. What Leatherman did right with this model is that it still has all the necessary and most important tools, which include:
- Needle nose pliers
- ordinary pliers
- wire cutters
- Hard Wire Cutting Machine
- Pinch knife
- large screwdriver
- small screwdriver
- Phillips screwdriver
- Ruler (8 inches/19 cm)
- Bottle opener / can opener
- Wire strippers
- Lanyard Attachment
The entire Leatherman Kick multi-tool is constructed from brushed semi-polished stainless steel, and the handle is lined with ultra-tough black Zytel polymer. Zytel is a nylon-glass fiber composite used to provide abrasion and impact resistance. Each individual tool built into the handle uses an optimized grade of stainless steel to match the purpose of the tool. While only including the most common tools for everyday tasks, the Kick is fully compatible with Leatherman's removable drill drivers. So if keeping the Kick's 12 tools in your pocket isn't enough, you can also add 10 extra screwdriver bits. You can also add a wave tool adapter to make any 1/4" bit compatible with your Kick as well. One thing we really like about that knife is that it's super sharp without any serrations, even though it's just a basic grip. While serrations do make for a very sharp knife, in our experience so far, most people don't have the tools needed to sharpen them when they become dull. Since it's just a straight blade, anyone can re-sharpen it to a sharper edge when needed. Another nice feature we wish the Kick had shipped from the factory was the ability to add a pocket clip to the threaded hole in the handle. Sadly, it's sold separately for a few dollars more.
in conclusion
Efficiency is the goal of the Leatherman Kick multi-tool. Thanks to the new design of this multi-tool, it means the blade is stronger, longer, sharper and lighter in weight. What's cool is that the Kick still has the same super-strong pliers as its larger Leatherman sibling, but in a narrower shape. We think the Kick is great for people with smaller hands, or if you really just want to get the basic tools you need and not something you'll never use – like a bottle opener. Bottom line, in terms of value for money, the Kick offers pretty good value for both quality and price. We give this tool a value rating of 9/10 because it's hard to beat. For our performance ratings, we were able to use each tool with ease and without issue, giving this tool a 9/10. We wish it did come with a pocket clip, though, because the days of wearing accessories on your belt are over.
