Skip Traditional Thermal Imaging Devices and Use Klein's Mobile Compatible Thermal Imagers
You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone without a smartphone these days. Having said that, for many of us, it makes sense to incorporate the technology we use every day into our work. Klein makes this possible with device-compatible thermal cameras, available for iOS and Android devices. We've taken a closer look at what makes Klein mobile phone thermal cameras useful for electricians and other tradespeople.
Klein Thermal Imagers for Cell Phones: The Big Questions

Similar to the FLIR One Pro LT, the imager has a thermal sensor on the unit and connects to the charging port on the phone. The most important thing is getting used to the camera being on the bottom of the phone rather than the top.

The imager provides a total of 10,800 pixels. Klein didn't mention the exact sensor size, but that resolution matches 90 x 120 pixels in a 3:4 ratio. Regardless, the resolution is good enough to easily detect and troubleshoot hot or cold spots. It can be used for diagnostics, wiring and many other applications behind paneling.
Klein thermal cameras for mobile phones can detect temperatures from -4° to 752° F (-20° to 400° C). You also have three different palette display options. You can view rainbow, iron red, or grayscale images. Plus, on-screen indicators help you differentiate between high and low temperatures and differential temperature readings.
In addition to capturing thermal images, you can use the Kein Imager app on your device to store and share video, including time-lapse videos. The app and the camera itself are compatible with iOS 11 or higher and Android 6.0 or higher. Remember, there are two models. iPhone users need Klein TI222, Android users need TI220
Additional features
- 6.6 ft (2 m) drop protection
- CE and UKCA certification
Both imagers retail for $249.99 whether you're buying the Android or iOS version. The app is free on the Google Play Store (Android) and App Store (iOS). Klein backs your purchase with a two-year warranty.
