advantage

shortcoming
- Studs not detected on plaster walls
Ask a professional about the best stud finder he or she uses, and you're sure to hear from Franklin Sensors a lot. Hart used Franklin technology in this model, which gave us confidence even before we even opened the box.
The unit runs on a pair of AAA batteries (not included). The battery access is on the front and can be opened without a screwdriver.

Once the battery is loaded, operation is simple. Simply place the Hart Professional Stud Finder flat against the wall, press and hold the middle blue button, and slide it along the wall. The No-mar strip on the back prevents you from marking the wall.

Pro Tip: Keep your hands and fingers away from the wall to avoid false detections.
When you come across a stud, you'll see a red LED indicating the full width. A standard stud will light up 3 tiles. There is a notch in the middle of the finder to help you mark the center of the stud.
If you happen to come across live AC behind drywall, the yellow lightning LEDs on both sides will light up to warn you.

The sensor in this model is capable of detecting wood or metal studs up to 1 1/2 inches behind drywall. This type of stud finder isn't reliable on plaster walls, though.
