HART 40V Battery Powered 16″ Chainsaw: Unleashing Unprecedented Cutting Power and Performance
HART has boldly entered the realm of high-performance battery-powered lawn care equipment with its latest addition to the 40V product line. Leading the pack is the HART 40V battery powered 16″ chainsaw. We were eager to test this saw and see how it compares to HART’s previous offerings.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Outperforms other HART chainsaws in terms of speed and strength
- Comes with a sturdy storage box for added convenience
- Features onboard wrench storage
- Enhanced security with double nail bar
Cons
- Plastic buckling nail
- Tendency to leak oil
HART currently offers two 40V brushless chainsaws, and the 16″ model strikes the perfect balance for homeowners. It’s an ideal tool for storm cleanup and seasonal tree care, handling trees of any species without overwhelming size.
To put the HART 40V battery powered 16″ chainsaw to the test, we enlisted the help of our friend and resident rancher, Eli Mosley. Together, we cleared a small tree on our ranch in Polk County, Florida. This provided us with the perfect opportunity to experience the chainsaw’s performance firsthand in a real-world setting, just like we did with previous models.
Thanks to its brushless motor, this chainsaw maintains an optimal chain speed and exhibits impressive power. We effortlessly felled several trees measuring up to 6 inches in diameter. Once the trees were down, we quickly removed the limbs and transformed them into usable firewood.
During our evaluation, it became evident that this model surpasses other battery-powered options from HART in terms of cutting speed and strength. Overall, this chainsaw offers an enjoyable user experience due to its ease of control, confident cutting performance, and manageable weight.
One area where we believe improvement could be made is with the curved spikes, which are currently made of plastic. Given the chainsaw’s ample power, more aggressive metal spikes would be a welcome addition.
HART 40V Battery Operated 16″ Chainsaw: Design Notes
Ergonomics
With a total length of 33.75 inches, this chainsaw provides ample space between the fore and rear grips, ensuring a comfortable cutting experience.
Weighing in at just 10.19 pounds (bare), or 13 pounds with the 4.0Ah battery, it aligns perfectly with similar battery-powered models on the market. You won’t feel burdened by its weight during extended use.
The side entry port for the battery adds an interesting touch. With a 4.0Ah battery, the chainsaw maintains excellent balance, but the battery does protrude slightly.
Chain Tensioning
HART wisely employs a tool-less bar safety design, which is appreciated by many users. While this chainsaw is not designed for professional use, numerous professionals still prefer tool-free options.
The chainsaw comes with a scraper that securely attaches to the bottom of the rear handle, allowing for on-the-fly adjustments without the need to return to your truck or garage.
To tighten or loosen the chain, simply loosen the crossbar nut slightly (1/4 turn is sufficient), and then use the slotted end of a wrench to turn the adjustment screw left or right.
Variable Speed Trigger
It’s uncommon to find a battery-operated chainsaw equipped with a variable-speed trigger, but HART delivers. Generally, running the chain at full speed during cuts minimizes the risk of snagging or seizing. However, if you activate the trigger, be sure to use proper technique to avoid any issues.
Suitcase
We appreciate that HART includes a hard carrying case with this chainsaw. Not only does it simplify storage and transportation, but it also contains any oil leaks that may occur due to temperature fluctuations.
Additional Features
- Translucent oil storage window
- Electronic chain brake
- Trigger safety
HART 40V 16 Inch Chainsaw Prices

The Bottom Line
The latest generation of HART 40V outdoor power equipment represents a significant improvement, and the 16-inch brushless chainsaw is no exception. It outperforms previous models and is specifically designed to help homeowners tackle larger cutting tasks. If you’ve been waiting for HART to release a versatile chainsaw suitable for storm cleanup and seasonal tree care, your wait is over.
