Greenworks 60V 16" Cordless Cord Trimmer Performance
basic

One of the highlights of this model is its 16-inch cutting belt. Many battery powered options are 15" and Greenworks has another model in the 60V series that is 13" so having a wider cleaning path makes the job faster.
The trimmer comes with a 0.080 inch cord, which is pretty much the industry standard for electric cord trimmers in the homeowner's field. You can also skip to 0.095" wire if you prefer (we recommend black diamond wire). Remember, your running time will drop from our results.
If you've had a Greenworks 60V system for a while, you might be wondering why there's another 16" model when the previous one was so good. It's mostly a power play. With this update, Greenworks can deliver performance levels equivalent to a 30cc gas engine.
run

Speaking of runtime, the Greenworks 16-inch cord cutter offers some of the better performance we've seen lately. Running at high speed, the brushless motor hummed for 24 minutes and 48 seconds on the 2.5Ah battery. That's about 10 minutes off the previous 16-inch model, but that's the trade-off you get for the extra performance.
Overall, the 0.080" wire cuts very well, but going up to 0.095" does make the job easier and faster. The run time is enough to cover 1/2 an acre or more of lawn, depending on how much landscaping you have to work on. Of course, if you have more areas to cut, you can always pop in another battery and keep working.
vibration

One of our biggest pet peeves when it comes to battery-operated cord trimmers is excessive vibration. Greenworks has done a good job of keeping vibrations to a minimum so you can work longer without unduly straining your hands.
noise level
One of the biggest motivators for people to switch to battery-powered OPEs is noise reduction. This string trimmer produces 80 decibels on low and 84 decibels on high. That's exactly what we've come to expect from a battery-powered cord trimmer of this size.
Load N' Go Trimmer Head

One of the highlights of the Greenworks Pro Cord Trimmer is the Load N' Go trimmer head. To reload, first align the indicator arrows on the head.
After aligning the arrows on the head, the insert on the outer shell matches the insert on the inner spool. Run your length of cord to the center and turn the bottom to ratchet it in. From there, it's your typical bump-feed trimmer head.
speed control

Greenworks throws in a couple of speed settings to go with its variable speed triggers. You can toggle them with a handy thumb switch. On low settings, we were able to handle the vast majority of grass and weeds without draining the battery anytime soon. When we needed some extra "vigor" to get through some thicker growth and edges, switching to high gear kept us going.
weight and balance
The Greenworks 60V 16 Inch Cordless Cord Trimmer weighs a very reasonable 11.19 lbs, which includes a 2.5Ah battery. This falls somewhere in the middle for most battery-operated trimmers compared to other models we've tested. Thanks to its excellent balance, the trimmer still feels very manageable and flexible in the trimming and trimming positions.
If you want to use the shoulder straps to take the load off your arms, Greenworks also has this cord cutter tether.
The weight of the battery nicely offsets the weight of the head (which houses the brushless motor), and any imbalance can be adjusted by moving the handle up and down on the shaft. You don't need tools here. Instead, you use a thumb dial to tighten or loosen the handle. Every weed wack handle should be easy to adjust!

the bottom line

It's packed with features that can easily handle light cleanup tasks as well as your regular weekly yard maintenance.
