EGO 765 CFM Blower Sets New Blowing Power Benchmark
While it may not carry the same weight as the space race of the 20th century, manufacturers are continuously pushing the boundaries of cordless blowers. And leading the charge is the EGO brand. The latest contender, the EGO 765 CFM blower, comes with impressive specifications. But does it have what it takes to outshine its battery and gas-powered competition once and for all?
Advantages
- The most powerful battery-operated blower we’ve ever tested
- Ergonomic working angle
- Convenient cruise control dial
- Comes with concentrator and wide fan nozzle
- Weather-resistant construction
Shortcomings
- Significantly pricier compared to other cordless blowers
- Designed for right-handed users
EGO 765 CFM Blower Performance
Blowing Power
Even before testing, the EGO’s specs of 765 CFM and 200 MPH are already impressive. As long-time users of PTR, you’ll know that Newton’s force measurement is the most telling metric.
In this aspect, the EGO 765 CFM Blower surpasses the 26N mark and emerges as the winner! Equipped with the included 5.0Ah battery, we put this blower to the test using a dynamometer and the provided nozzle. It achieved the highest blowing force effortlessly.
On high speed, it delivered 15.9N, a figure that skyrocketed to 25.3N when we engaged the turbo button. Even when compared to other battery-powered blowers, it remains the most powerful one we’ve tested to date.
But what about EGO’s claim of hitting 26N? We retested it using a 10.0Ah battery to reach the 26N benchmark. Finally, the monster battery pack propelled the blower to a peak output of 26.1N. It’s worth noting that environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and pressure can influence the results, and we typically observe higher numbers during warmer months.
Though we achieved our goal, we don’t recommend using the 10.0Ah battery with the blower due to the significant increase in weight.
The Bigger Picture
The blowing power of the EGO blower is truly impressive. Let’s not overlook the bigger picture here. Gas-powered handheld blowers, even those of professional-grade, typically reach around 12N. Clearly, the EGO 765 CFM Blower surpasses that by a wide margin. In fact, it stands as the most powerful handheld blower across all power sources that we know of.
When compared to backpack blowers, the difference is even more apparent. Professional gas models start around 20N, with a select few peaking in the mid-20s. Some high-end professional models such as Echo’s X series can even go beyond 40N. However, considering the weight of these blowers, it’s remarkable that the EGO achieves similar power in a handheld form. Kudos to the product development team!
Runtime
As we all know, greater power consumption leads to reduced battery life. With a fully charged 5.0Ah battery, the EGO blower can run for up to 25 minutes on high speed mode and 15 minutes on turbo mode. During our internal tests, we achieved slightly lower numbers of 22 minutes and 13:05 minutes, respectively.
Considering the power output, these are decent figures for a cordless blower. To prolong the runtime, you can utilize the cruise control dial to achieve the desired blowing force without draining the battery excessively.
EGO 765 CFM Blower Design Notes
When it comes to functionality, the blower maintains a fairly basic design. However, there are a few notable features regarding the controls. The primary controls consist of a shifter trigger, and there’s a cruise control dial to alleviate finger fatigue during prolonged use.
A neat aspect of the EGO’s cruise control design is that you can adjust the speed on the go with one hand. The cruise control dial is on the left side, making it most convenient for right-handed users, but slightly less so for left-handed users.
Similar to other EGO blowers, it also features a turbo button that instantly ramps up the brushless motor for maximum airflow, regardless of the cruise control setting. It’s a single button that helps maximize battery life by delivering maximum power only when you need it.
Additional Features
- Includes cone and wide fan nozzles
- Equipped with a shoulder strap hook
The EGO 56V 765 CFM Leaf Blower is priced at $329 when bundled with a 5.0Ah battery and charger, or $449 when including an additional 5.0Ah battery. EGO offers an impressive 5-year tool warranty and a 3-year battery warranty.
The Bottom Line
If you desire the advantages of a battery-powered blower combined with the blowing power of a backpack blower, then the EGO 765 CFM blower is the ideal choice. Not every homeowner requires this level of power, and EGO offers other models that may be a better fit. However, when it comes to unmatched blowing performance, EGO takes the lead among all competing brands.
