EGO 18" Battery Operated Misting Fan Review FN1800

Posted on April 20, 2023 by

Eat an ice-cold pill this summer with the EGO 18-inch battery-operated misting fan

Cordless fans are a great way to use the batteries you already have to make hot weather more bearable. Most of them, though, need a little help from the CFM department. The EGO 18-inch battery-operated misting fan promises to take the concept of cordless fans to a whole new level, and we got our hands on it to see if they deliver.

advantage

  • long running time
  • Efficient atomization with 2 modes to choose from
  • easy to transport
  • Rotation up to 225°
  • Excellent airflow and effective range
  • silent operation

shortcoming

  • no hybrid option

air flow

EGO's internal testing has shown that the fan is capable of moving up to 5000 CFM of air at a top speed of 20+ MPH. In fact, EGO claims it has up to twice the airflow compared to other standard 20-inch box fans. Six speeds help you adjust airflow, from 1500 CFM on the low end to a full 5000 CFM on Turbo.

We use our anemometer to measure airspeed at low, mid, high, and 5 feet above the turbo to get an idea of what to expect when you're sitting near the fan.

From 5 feet:

  • Low: 3.1 MPH
  • Medium: 5.3 MPH
  • High: 8.0 MPH
  • Turbo: 10.0 mph

To determine the effective range of the fan, we ran it on turbo and started measuring the airspeed from farther away, until it dropped to 2.5 MPH (the lowest speed that still had a reasonable cooling effect). We hit it at 25 feet.

atomization function

atomizing nozzle

The EGO 18" Battery Operated Misting Fan uses four nozzles to deliver theme park level misting for sporting events, tailgates, beach days, patio parties, the workplace and more! Setting up the vaping function is simple – just place the weighted intake filter in the barrel and choose from 2 vaping pattern levels. EGO tells us it can effectively cool areas up to 540 square feet.

siphon

There are two working modes. Intermittent mode turns the pump on and off at specific intervals to prioritize water and battery efficiency. Continuous mode keeps the nebulizing action going all the time.

In terms of water use, expect 3 gallons per hour in continuous mode and 1.2 gallons per hour in batch mode.

run

EGO 18" Battery Operated Misting Fan Review

One of the EGO's great strengths is its 56V battery platform. Not only is it stronger than the batteries that power most cordless fans, but it also includes some very high-capacity options. For our runtime test, we used the 5.0Ah battery to see how long it would run on high speed and turbo (fan only, no spray).

  • High: 4 hours 16 minutes 20 seconds
  • High Speed: 2 hours 51 minutes 22 seconds

EGO also tells us we can expect up to 60 hours of continuous runtime from the 5.0Ah battery.

Unfortunately, this fan isn't the dual-power hybrid we've seen on other jobsite fans, so keep a spare battery handy when you're working long hours. On the other hand, if you have a 10Ah or 12Ah battery from an EGO riding lawn mower, you don't need the AC capability.

noise level

EGO points out how quiet the fans are, and our testing confirmed this. At low speeds, it's hard to tell if it's on, even while you're listening. We could even hear the refrigerator in the office.

At highway speeds, it's still only 68 decibels. Turbo raises that to 72.

other highlights

  • Telescoping handle, top carry handle and rubber molded wheels make transport easy
  • Weighs over 28 lbs with a 5.0Ah battery

EGO 18" Battery Operated Misting Fan Price

Find misting fans online or in-store at your favorite EGO retailer. It retails for $249.99 at Lowe's and comes with EGO's 5-year warranty. As we write this, there are no kit options available.

the bottom line

The runtime of the EGO high-capacity battery supports powerful airflow with an effective range of 25 feet, setting this misting fan apart from other options you may be considering. It was clear to us that the product team wanted to go beyond making a basic fan, and did a great job of making it the envy of the neighbors. As EGO continues to build lifestyle products as well-designed as its lawn care products, it's building a very strong case as a must-have battery platform for homeowners.
