DeWalt DCN623 Bringing the Compact 20V Needle Nailer for Cordless Woodworking
Cordless battery-operated nailers are steadily eating away at corded nailers with lighter designs and equivalent performance. With a smaller finishing nailer, battery power can add a lot of weight. Our question was whether the DeWalt DCN623 20V Max Cordless Nailer could provide a compact enough footprint for a carpenter looking for a viable alternative to hauling hoses and compressors to the job site. This can be beneficial for smaller projects!
DeWalt Atomic 20V MAX Cordless Nail Gun – BIG SALE

Unlike the Milwaukee M12 23 Gauge Needle Nailer or the Makita 18V Cordless Needle Nailer, the DeWalt DCN623 uses a brushless motor. It drives 23 ga. Drive nails from 5/8" to 1 1/2" in length into a variety of woods. According to DeWalt, this includes solid oak. Powered by a 20V battery, you won't have to use a hose or compressor when using this tool like you would with a traditional pneumatic needle nailer like the DeWalt DWFP2350K.
Designed for decorative carpenters and other professionals who tackle punch lists and small projects, the DeWalt Atomic 20V Cordless Nailer drives up to 2,000 nails per charge. It also features a low spike "dryfire" locking system. An LED indicator lets you know when it needs to be reloaded – we love adding that feature.

Additional features
- Tool-less jam release
- Tool-less depth adjustment
- 110 nail box capacity

final thoughts
Whether this nailer is small enough to meet the needs of professionals using a truly compact air nailer remains to be seen. Of course, it brings some much-needed features, such as brushless motors and a fairly small footprint. If we manage to get one in for review, we can run it through a battery of tests and see how it performs in the field. So far the price, weight, size and design look promising!
