DeWalt Rechargeable Knapsack Sprayer Reduces Fatigue From Hand Pump Sprayers
If you work on a farm, golf course, or other large property, the thought of using a hand pump knapsack sprayer probably makes your arms ache. Battery power is an attractive alternative, and the DeWalt 20V Max Cordless Backpack Sprayer can take over the tough jobs.
Using the DeWalt 20V Max Cordless Backpack Sprayer
First off, you can run off almost any DeWalt 20V Max battery for power, there is a gasket on the battery door to keep liquids out. A FlexVolt battery up to 12 Ah would fit, but we're not sure about a 15 Ah battery pack. 4 gallons of fluid is already pretty heavy, so whether you want longer run time from a high-capacity battery or want to save a few pounds with a compact battery pack is entirely up to you.
Similar to the Milwaukee SwitchTank Backpack Sprayer, you activate the power to the sprayer with a switch on the side. Below it, there is a Variflo variable power dial to choose how much spray power you want. Both are accessible when wearing a nebuliser.

To adjust your spray pattern, DeWalt includes five fixed nozzles and one adjustable brass nozzle that conveniently stores on the wand.

So, what chemicals can it handle? The answer lies in the Viton seals that DeWalt uses. Here's a list of things you can do with your sprayer:
- herbicide
- liquid fertilizer
- pesticide
- disinfectant
- detergent
- the stain
- Sealants
other highlights
- Wide tank opening reduces spillage
- Reinforcement around the hose reduces the risk of kinks
- Nickel-plated brass swivel connection between hose and tank improves range of motion without kinks
- Heavy Duty 21" Stainless Steel Wand
- Battery level indicator next to the Variflo dial
- 3-tier filtration system prevents debris from clogging the pump
- The harness design includes a waist belt to take the weight off your shoulders
some thoughts
We had two samples to test, but both had various issues. The first sample had a leaking stick that didn't seal when we tightened the fitting. The second unit is leaking under the tank – possibly missing or displaced seals, hoses or gaskets. In either case, we love the concept and design of the DeWalt DXSP190681 Backpack Sprayer, but it's hard to recommend it right now. Let's hope DeWalt sorts these out — or maybe we're just really unlucky and get the only two leaked samples in the country.
DeWalt offers the Backpack Sprayer Kit with 2.0 Ah Battery and Charger for $269.99. It's significantly less expensive than the Milwaukee Switch Tank system, which starts at $399 for kits, though it lacks some features, such as the ability to swap out tanks. We've also been using the Milwaukee Switch Tank for over a year with no issues.
