The 1620 Shop Pant breaks the mold of our cheap, uncomfortable, disposable work clothes. The Shop Pant is affordable, made from stretchy, hard-wearing fabric that promises unmatched comfort and durability. I wear pants like everyone else – but let's see if I'm much more comfortable at work.
advantage
- Significant stretch in all typical tights areas
- Extremely breathable fabric for a cool feeling
- Angled back pocket for easy access
- Very durable material stays clean and wear-free
shortcoming
- The super high price will deter some people from buying these pants and those who buy these pants will not push the pants to the limit to keep them in good condition
1620 Shop Pants Performance
stand up
The premise of 1620 Shop Pant makes sense. Pros will pay four to five times more for a pair of stronger, more comfortable pants that will last four to five times longer than cheap pants. Is that accurate? It won't be for everyone, but after wearing these pants in the shop and doing some medium service work, I think the 1620 will fit.

The 1620 Shop pant has very good stretch. It extends to all areas where my cheap work pants and jeans restrict movement. The secret to the stretch seems to be 91% Durastretch nylon and 9% spandex, with a gusseted crotch.

As far as I can tell, the 1620's description as a modern fit is true. I purposely ordered pants that were smaller to encourage myself to eat healthily. I'm making some progress, but I still wish the waistband was more elastic. It's no big deal. If you order true to size, you will get a pair of pants that fit you exactly!
take a deep breath
Of all the features of the 1620 Shop Pant, I like its breathability the most. These pants are more breathable than any pants I've ever worn. I have the perfect testing ground for this review: a workshop with no air conditioning — only fans — in Florida during the summer months. The superior comfort of the cool pants is almost enough to convince me that the Shop Pant is worth the money.

Deep back pocket angles for easy access. Pockets for watches and mobile devices are also large enough to be within easy reach.
1620 shop pants report
As the name suggests, the Shop Pant is designed for light to medium duty. It's not for the heaviest of jobs. 1620 Other trousers were prepared for these jobs.

Even so, I'm willing to bet the 1620 Shop Pant will handle anything you throw at it better than most other pants. But here's the thing: if you're paying top dollar, you might not want to actually put them at risk. That's the irony of this expensive tough, hardwearing, waterproof fabric.
If you can get over the mental hurdle like I did in the end, you'll find that no matter what you do, the Shop Pant will stay clean and won't tear. I wouldn't let them crawl under the mobile home like they did back in the old days of service, though. I'll save that for the 1620's heavy duty pants.
price
It's no surprise that there's a wide price range in the work pants category. The $198 1620 Shop Pant is way ahead of the curve on price.
- Dickies Flex Tough – $29
- Wall 832 move it $40
- Wall trencher $45
- Truewerk T2 $79
- Truewerk G2 $124 (discontinued)
- 1620 Shop Pants: $198
the bottom line
There's no doubt that the 1620 Shop Pant is a great work pant for light to medium duty shop tasks. It breathes, stretches, wicks sweat and stays very scuff-free and clean after weeks of hard use. I'm sure it will outlast or outlast multiple other work pants or jeans. This helps me understand how it fetches a premium. Still, it's a tough sell for a lot of pros, but that's the hallmark of a quality product. For those who shell out $198, they'll find their productivity, comfort, and mobility significantly improved.
